Description
To enable students to communicate appropriately and
effectively in English and the LOTE (Language Other
Than English), both orally and in writing, in the
area of Society.
To give students an overview of society in a country
where the LOTE is spoken.
To encourage students to compare society in a
country where the LOTE is spoken with that of
Australia.
To enable students to extract salient information from factual texts.
To enable students to identify socially significant
linguistic variables in the LOTE.

Successful communication is the focus of all
assessment. In assessing the communicative skills of the student, the
following criteria (subject to language-specific needs) may assist in
determining the level of student performance:
- Clarity of expression
- Command of topic-specific vocabulary
- Appropriateness of language
- Fluency
- Structural accuracy
- Knowledge of subject matter
- Accuracy of information.
