This unit describes the skills and knowledge for learners of English as an additional language to investigate and become familiar with aspects of the history of Indigenous people in Australia.

The unit provides an introduction to the political and social history of Indigenous people in Australia from pre-history to the present day.

The outcomes described in this unit relate to:
- The ISLPR (International Second Language Proficiency Ratings) descriptors for Speaking and Listening, and Reading,. They contribute directly to the achievement of ISLPR Speaking 3/ 3+, Listening 3 / 3+ and Reading 3/3+
and
- the Australian Core Skills Framework (ACSF). They contribute directly to the achievement of Indicators of Competence in Oral Communication and Reading at Level 4
