Description
To provide the learner with the skills and knowledge necessary to describe
plant charactertistics and cultural requirements for a range of commonly
cultivated plants.

To enable the learner to describe the uses of various amenity plants.
Range of Variables
This module should be offered ONLY in the period including late winter and
spring because of seasonal flowering.

Learners should either be doing or have completed 46001 Plant Structure to
obtain the Learning Outcomes necessary for this subject.

The core list has been developed primarily for the Perth metropolitan area.
Lecturers are able to vary the core list according to the plants commonly grown
in their area. They should, however, follow the format of the text, the
specimen sheets and the Learning Outcomes when adding suitable local plants.
Care should be taken not to take plants from the Core Lists of other
horticulture identification modules being offered to the learners.

Delivery to take place in a classroom/demonstration room and in gardens and/or
in a workplace and/or on excursions to provide:

This subject is to be assessed internally using competence as a measure of
learner achievement.

The learner is required to demonstrate competency in each of the learning
outcomes in line with the assessment method shown.

Assessment will be based on an appropriate selection of the following methods:

- oral and/or written identification of specimens
- longer written and/or oral tests on identification, cultural
requirements and uses
- collections of properly prepared specimens.

NOTE: A pass mark of 75% is necessary to indicate competency in all
plant identification tests.
