One two hour written paper consisting of fifteen questions relating to the
following topics:
Wide-Area Networks, Protocols and
Media: (10%) Local-Area Networks, Protocols and
Media: (10%) Asynchronous
Transmissions and RS-232-C
- (20%) Modems:
(10%) ISO/OSI Model: ( 5%) Flow and Error
Control at Data Link Layer: (15%)
Telecom Data Services and Telephone

Internal Assessment
Exercises relating to the practical application of
communications software and hardware.
- Short exercises relating to the connection of printers to
PC's using a serial interface. (10%)
- Short exercises relating to establishing remote
connections with intelligent modems, file transfers and terminal
emulation. (20%)
