Description
To introduce learners to the language of the science industry and provide
knowledge and experience of the “industry” scope, culture and structure.
It must be emphasised that this is an introductory module. It is designed for
learners with little, or no experience of scientific technical workplaces. The
aim of the module is to provide a broad picture of science technical employment
together with the industry sectors involved and the varying degrees of mobility
between them. As a result, it is hoped that the learners will gain an insight
into their chosen career and an enhanced sense of relevance for the course of
study that they are about to commence.

Range of Variables
This module can be delivered off-the-job.
Case studies should involve a mixture of classroom and excursion activities.
Learning strategies should be selected to suit the nature of the learning
outcomes and the learner’s capability to undertake independent and/or
team-based learning as alternatives, or in addition to, normal classroom
delivery.
Where delivery is on-the-job, or involves independent learning, the learner
should design a learning contract with the TAFE supervisor or training provider.
