Description
To develop appropriate attitudes towards confidentiality, conduct and patient
relations, and provide students with basic knowledge and skill in handling
medical emergencies.

To develop a broad understanding of medical terminology.

To produce medical documents from audio tapes.

To develop an understanding of the identity and function of the medical
services that interact with the medical practice and the associated protocol.

To develop skills and understanding of procedures in the establishment and
maintenance of medical records.

Internal Assessment 100%

The total mark of 100% will be allocated as follows:

Medical terminology paper of 20 minutes' duration comprising 50 questions
consisting of the following types:

- multiple choice
- true/false
- mix and match
- completion. 25%

Theory paper (Topics 1, 4, 5) of one hour's duration
consisting of three short-answer questions 25%

Audio assessment of one hour's duration comprising a
summary or report (250-300 words) and letter
(150-200 words) of a medical nature 25%

Practical assignment on computerised billing
procedures 25%

In order to successfully pass, the student must obtain at least 12.5% in EACH
of the above four areas. If a student fails two of the above areas then
the student must repeat the total assessment. If a student fails in only one
of the above areas then the student to be allowed to re-sit that assessment
only, the following Semester. The result
in this latter case to be shown as an 'H'.
