Evidence Guide
Written examination 40%
Internal Assessment 60%

In order to pass the subject, the student must obtain a minimum 50% of the
available marks in each section of the assessment and satisfy all assessment
criteria in the practical examination.

Written examination paper (2 hours) 50%

Practical tasks 50%

-Conduct a level traverse
-Test and adjust an automatic level
-Measure distances using a steel band and apply corrections for slope, sag and
temperature
-Set out a horizontal distance using steel band
-Measure slope distances using an EDM and correct to the horizontal
-Measure a horizontal angle using four fold repetition
-Measure a vertical angle on two faces
-Observe a closed traverse using theodolite and EDM to a precision of 1:1000
-Clearly and unambiguously record all observations in a suitable fieldbook
using industry standard methods

Practical examination (4 hours)

-Measure a corrected horizontal distance using a steel band
-Measure a horizontal angle using four fold repetition
-Measure a vertical angle on two faces
-Test (not adjust) an automatic level for collimation error
-Observe and reduce a level traverse which includes intermediate sights using
the rise and fall method
-Plumb a waddy over a survey point
-Set up a theodolite over a survey point on sloping ground
-Test (not adjust) a theodolite for horizontal collimation error.
