Description
This unit describes the performance outcomes, skills and knowledge required to perform basic elements of drafting in the building and construction industry. The unit includes determining the drafting scope of work and performing basic drafting activities.
This unit of competency is applied by new entrants to non-trade roles in the building and construction industry who undertake basic drafting activities working in a building and construction company, or for a builder, surveyor, engineer, estimator or drafting service

Elements and Performance Criteria
Determine drafting scope of work
- 1.6 Identify and confirm the scope of work to be completed in accordance with workplace procedures
- 1.7 Identify content and format requirements for drawings
- 1.8 Confirm the drawing conventions and notations to be used
- 1.9 Identify and confirm compliance requirements and views to be included
- 1.10 Obtain plans, specifications, drawings and reference materials for the scope of work and confirm their relevance to the drafting activities required
Perform drafting
- 2.1 Create compliant drawings according to the specifications and Australian standards
- 2.2 Draw features and add required dimensions and notations as required in accordance with drawing protocols and Australian standards
- 2.3 Name, save and provide hard copy drawings in accordance with workplace procedures
- 2.4 Review drawings for quality and consistency with requirements and make any amendments needed
- 2.5 Submit drawings for approval in accordance with workplace procedures
