To enable students to communicate appropriately and
effectively in English and the LOTE (Language Other
Than English), both orally and in writing, in the
area of Social Services.
To enable students to become familiar with the
topic-specific vocabulary and issues.
To provide students with situations in which they
can practise using the LOTE in professional
activities similar to those performed by Language
Aides.

assessment. In assessing the communicative skills of the student, the
following criteria (subject to language-specific needs) may assist in
determining the level of student performance:
- Clarity of expression
- Command of topic-specific vocabulary
- Appropriateness of language
- Fluency
- Structural accuracy
- Knowledge of subject matter
- Accuracy of information.
