Description
To enable students to communicate appropriately and
effectively in English and the LOTE (Language Other
Than English), both orally and in writing, in the
hospital environment.
To supply students with a general overview of the
hospital environment.
To provide students with the language skills to help
patients overcome language barriers when
communicating everyday needs.
To enable students to extract and impart relevant
information taken from a variety of sources related
to the health area.

CRITERIA FOR ASSESSMENT
Successful communication is the focus of all
assessment. In assessing the communicative skills of the student, the
following criteria (subject to language-specific needs) may assist in
determining the level of student performance:
- Clarity of expression
- Command of topic-specific vocabulary
- Appropriateness of language
- Fluency
- Structural accuracy
- Knowledge of subject matter
- Accuracy of information.
