Description
This unit describes the performance outcomes, skills and knowledge required to apply intermediate techniques for dancing with a partner in any dance style in all performance contexts, from social to community to professional.
At this level partnering techniques would be increasing depth and complexity in nature, may include combination grips but not include movements such as overhead lifts, which require a high level of fitness and advanced technique.

Critical aspects for assessment and evidence required to demonstrate competency in this unit
- Perform an intermediate partnering sequence on at least two occasions
- Demonstrate competent execution of intermediate techniques when performing, including:
- coordinated footwork
- appropriate arm lines
- correct body positioning in relation to partner
- holding
- catching
- releasing
- supporting or being supported
- Respond to constructive feedback on own performance.
Context of and specific resources for assessment The following examples provide assessment conditions appropriate for this unit:
- Peer/3rd party reports of simulated performance
- evaluation of practice or live or recorded performances
- verbal or written questioning to test knowledge as listed in the required skills and knowledge section of this unit
- direct observation of candidate practising and performing partnering skills.
Method of assessment
Assessment methods should closely reflect workplace performance demands as far as possible. Where real live performance opportunities are not available simulated performance can be offered. It is important for assessment that delivery of the unit offers multiple opportunities for practice and performance of partnering skills of increasing difficulties.
