Description
To provide training for marine engineering students so that they develop skills
and acquire knowledge in applied thermodynamic principles.
Range of Variables
This module is taught in a classroom and laboratory by the Integrated
Theory/Practical teaching method. Equipment in the heat laboratory and/or an
engine simulator will be used in the practical work.

This module will be delivered entirely in an off-the-job environment using a
combination of theoretical and practical teaching methods strategy in class and
in the laboratories.
Evidence Guide
Internal Assessment 100%

The assessment of this module is holistic in nature and requires assessing on
the integration of skills and knowledge. To be successful in this module, the
learner must show evidence of achievement of the module aim. This approach
enables the assessment to be carried out by different means to achieve an
holistic outcome.

The assessment scheme is generally designed to ensure that critical knowledge
and skills are assessed more than once and in a variety of ways throughout the
module’s assessment events. This provides a valid assessment of the learner’s
abilities and avoids misrepresentation of failures caused by single cases of
poor performance.

Assessment methods include:

- Calculation type questions

- Written short answer questions requiring sketching and interpretation
of a graph or diagram
