Description
To enable students to communicate appropriately and
effectively in English and the LOTE (Language Other
Than English), both orally and in writing, in the
area of Politics.
To provide an overview of the system of government
in a country where the LOTE is spoken.
To provide the students with the opportunity of
developing an awareness of the political situation
of the LOTE country.
To compare the political systems of Australian and
the LOTE country.
To identify the areas of mutual influence and co-
operation.

1 Give a short talk on a prominent political figure from either
Australia or the LOTE country (maximum 5 minutes). 20%
2 Write a short report (minimum 300 words) comparing the voting systems
of Australia and the LOTE country. 20%
3 Summarise a short political speech. 15%
4 Represent the views of a political party (or faction) of the LOTE
country in a group discussion. 20%
5 Role-plays between constituent and candidate; citizen and politician,
diplomatic representative of the LOTE country and an
Australian. 25%
I Criteria for Assessment
Successful communication is the focus of all
assessment. In assessing the communicative skills of the student, the
following criteria (subject to language-specific needs) may assist in
determining the level of student performance:
- Clarity of expression
- Command of topic-specific vocabulary
- Appropriateness of language
- Fluency
- Structural accuracy
- Knowledge of subject matter
- Accuracy of information.
