Description
To teach the basic elements of the COBOL language.
To give practical experience in its application to
common data processing problems.

One two-hour written paper 70%
Internal Assessment 30%
Students must pass the written paper.
Where a pass is achieved in the written paper, the
overall mark is the sum of the two components,
weighted as shown above.
Otherwise, the overall mark is determined by 100%
weighting for the written paper.

- Two questions relating to some of the following topics:
- Tables
- Cursor-addressed I/O
- Report-writer
- Detail, group-indicated and grouped
reports 20% each
- Design and code a program
60%
Internal Assessment Requirements 30%
Programming assignments, requiring the design,
coding and testing of programs, which cover the two
of the following (the other programs should be
written as exercises):
- Listing of a sequential file to the printer.
- Program, involving use of tables, output to terminal.
- Report with two level breaks, and including control
headings and footings.
- Same or similar report to 3 above, using Report- Writer.
