Description
To familiarise the learners with aspects of plant cultivation eg:

- soil preparation
- planting
- staking
- fertilizing
- pruning
- watering
- propagation
- pest and disease management.

To discuss historical and economic use of the plant groups.

To introduce the learner to a range of situations in which these plants can be
used.
Range of Variables
To allow credible competency based training and assessment the class size MUST
NOT exceed 15 learners.

Delivery will take place in the classroom and in various garden situations, on
the campus, at a workplace or on an excursion to suitable locations.

Learners will need access to suitable media containers, plants and facilities
for propagating, potting up and transplanting a selection of plants from the
core list as required.

The learner will be provided with:

- Examples of live specimens
- Examples from books/audio visual presentations
- Site visits.

Short oral and/or written tests.

Assignments.

Demonstration of practical skills required.
