Delivery to take place in a classroom/demonstration room with ready access to a
shadehouse and gardens.

Learners to be provided with the plants, growing media, containers, fertiliser
and the various situations necessary to undertake the plant growth trials
necessary for the practical aspects of the subject.

Access to laboratory equipment is an advantage for some of the practical
exercises which may be selected for this subject.

Lecturers to note: Some of the options for practical work selected will have
to be set up in advance of the time they are needed in class. The supply of
plants required will have to be arranged in advance.

In a classroom situation, arrangements will have to be made to ensure that the
learners' growth trials are cared for in an appropriate manner between classes.

To allow credit competency-based training and assessment the class size MUST
NOT exceed fifteen st

Internal Assessment 100%

This subject is to be assessed internally using competence as a measure of
student achievement.

The learner is required to demonstrate competency in each of the learning
outcomes in line with the assessment method shown.

Assessment will be based on an appropriate selection of the following methods:

-short oral/written explanations of the processes and/or
-longer written and/or oral tests
-involvement in setting up and monitoring the practical growth trials
-workbook/reports on the various growth trials which must be submitted at a
satisfactory standard for competency.

External students will complete assignments covering the theoretical knowledge,
practical applications and including satisfactory reports on the growth trials
for competency.
