This unit describes the performance outcomes, skills and knowledge required to supervise and lead small teams to achieve work outcomes in an early childhood workplace.

Elements and Performance Criteria
1 Build rapport with team members
- 1.1 Use a verbal and non-verbal communication style that is respectful of the values, perspectives and cultural expectations of team members
- 1.2 Converse with team members to identify and acknowledge shared experiences
- 1.3 Identify barriers to team cohesiveness and factors contributing to those barriers
- 1.4 Collaborate with team members to develop strategies to enhance team cohesiveness
- 1.5 Provide guidance and support to assist team members in resolving conflict or other work difficulties
2 Promote and monitor ethical and compliant work practices
- 2.1 Discuss work roles and responsibilities with team members and clarify any misunderstandings
- 2.2 Use the diversity of team members’ strengths, knowledge and skills when allocating tasks
- 2.3 Monitor the completion of assigned tasks according to workplace schedules
- 2.4 Consult with team members to generate solutions when tasks are not able to be completed
- 2.5 Provide constructive feedback to support team members’ adherence to compliance requirements when completing tasks
- 2.6 Support team members to apply ethical decision making processes
- 2.7 Provide direction to the team in response to changing priorities or unexpected situations
3 Establish a culture of continuous improvement
- 3.1 Assist team members to self-reflect on their work performance to identify strengths and areas for improvement
- 3.2 Provide instruction, guidance and role modelling to build the professional capacity of team members
- 3.3 Encourage team members to share ideas that contribute to the development of new and innovative work practices

4 Enhance own professional capability
