Description
To provide introductory knowledge and skills to support chemical laboratory
practice.
Range of Variables
This module is to be delivered off-the-job and may be attempted by a variety of
modes.

Ideally, for full-time learners, the module should be sequenced over a semester
to ensure adequate time for skill acquisition and intermodule reinforcement.

If delivery is scheduled in blocks, learners will need to access open learning
materials covering all practical and theoretical aspects beforehand in order to
allow the concentrated delivery to be properly assimilated. Approximately
eight to ten blocks would be required to enable the learner to attain the
required learning autonomy.

As the module has a significant laboratory component, delivery strategies must
ensure integration of knowledge and laboratory skills. When framing delivery
strategies it is also important to identify part-time learners who have
relevant employment as they may require less practical supervision than
full-time learners.
