Description
Rationale: A flexible qualification at AQF Level3 not specifically aligned with regulated maritime occupations but which includes competency in basic maritime safety, survival and emergency skills as well as other skills needed to fulfil support roles on various types of coastal vessels.
Successful completion will require competency in units that relate to work defined as aligned at AQF Level3:
'Performance of a defined range of skilled operations, usually within a range of broader related activities involving known routines, methods and procedures, where some discretion and judgement is required in the selection of equipment, services or contingency measures and within known time constraints. Applications may involve some responsibility for others. Participation in teams including group or team coordination may be involved'.

Requirements for completion of the qualification:A successful outcome of twenty-two units of competency which must include:
- the seven (7) mandatory units listed, plus
- at least fifteen (15) additional units (at least seven of which must be aligned at AQF Level 3) to specific additional maritime employment needs beyond the minimum mandatory requirements.
