Description
This qualification covers workers who provide basic health care services to clients. This work involves direct client contact under supervision. This qualification has been structured to include coverage of specific requirements for ambulance work and for medical assisting work in the Australian Defence Force (ADF). This qualification is suited to Australian Apprenticeship pathways.
Occupational titles may include:
Voluntary (or paid) ambulance work
First aid provider
Medical assistant (Defence)
Specific elective units of competency must be selected for this qualification to address requirements for work in the ambulance sector, as outlined below.

Packaging Rules
Fifteen (15) units of competency are required for award of this qualification, including:- five (5) core units
- ten (10) elective units
A wide range of elective units is available, including:
- Group A electives which must be selected for ambulance work
- Group B electives which are recommended for medical assisting work in Defence
- Group C electives which are recommended for culturally aware and respectful practice
- Other relevant electives listed in the qualification outline
- Units of competency to address workplace requirements and packaged at the level of this qualification or higher in Health and/or Community Services Training Packages
- Where appropriate, to address workplace requirements, up to three (3) units of competency packaged at the level of this qualification or higher in other relevant Training Packages or accredited courses where the details of those courses are available on TGA or other public listing
