This unit describes a participant’s skills and knowledge required to conduct wheeled vehicle operations (non-articulated) in Coal mining.This unit is appropriate for those working in operational roles.Licensing, legislative, regulatory and certification requirements that apply to this unit can vary between States, Territories and Industry sectors. Elements and Performance Criteria
1. Plan and prepare for conducting wheeled vehicle operations (non-articulated)
- 1.1 Access, interpret and apply, wheeled vehicle operations (non-articulated), documentation and ensure the work activity is compliant
- 1.2 Obtain, read, interpret, clarify and confirm work requirements
- 1.3 Identify and address potential risks, hazards and environmental issues and implement control measures
- 1.4 Select and wear personal protective equipment appropriate for work activities
- 1.5 Access, interpret and apply mine environmental geological and survey data required to complete the allocated work
- 1.6 Obtain and interpret emergency procedures and be prepared for fire/accident/emergency
2. Operate vehicles
- 2.1 Communicate and coordinate activities with others throughout the work activity.
- 2.2 Carry out pre-start, start-up, park-up, shutdown and secure equipment procedures
- 2.3 Use vehicle controls and systems and ensure smooth and effective operations
- 2.4 Drive and operate vehicle within equipment limitations, and monitor and respond to gauges and systems
- 2.5 Load/unload personnel or materials
- 2.6 Carry out towing and pushing of equipment and plant
- 2.7 Complete the work within the operating capacities of the equipment
- 2.8 Continually monitor hazards and risks, and ensure safety of self, other personnel, plant and equipment
3. Carry out operator maintenance
- 3.1 Prepare machine for maintenance
- 3.2 Conduct inspection and fault finding
- 3.3 Carry out scheduled maintenance tasks
- 3.4 Process written maintenance records
