Description
This unit describes the performance outcomes, skills and knowledge required to model high standards of performance, reflect on clinical work practices and contribute to organisational processes for systemic improvement.This unit applies to enrolled nurses, registered with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia (NMBA), seeking specialisation in enrolled nurse work that is carried out in consultation and collaboration with registered nurses, and under direct or indirect supervisory arrangements aligned to the NMBA regulatory authority legislative requirements.The skills in this unit must be applied in accordance with Commonwealth and State/Territory legislation, Australian Standards and industry codes of practice.No occupational licensing, certification or specific legislative requirements apply to this unit at the time of publication.

1. Model high standards of performance.
  • 1.1.Initiate and undertake on going professional development to make own clinical performance consistent with professional standards and the organisation's vision and objectives.
  • 1.2. Support collaboration and continuous improvement and provide ongoing professional development to colleagues.
  • 1.3. Use professional, respectful and positive modes of communication.
  • 1.4. Participate in committees and working parties that contribute positively to clinical practice and patient outcomes through quality improvement processes.
2. Reflect on clinical work practices and potential improvements.
  • 2.1. Observe and reflect on effectiveness of work practices in meeting desired outcomes.

  • 2.3. Identify challenges and ideas with registered nurse and multidisciplinary health care team.

3. Participate in processes for quality improvement.
  • 3.1. Identify opportunities and contribute to organisational process for systemic improvements to clinical guidelines for nursing practice.

  • 3.3. Engage with multidisciplinary health care team regarding plan of care and systemic aspects of clinical practice.
  • 3.4. Identify and articulate issues and practical processes for implementing change.
