Description
This unit of competency defines the skills and knowledge required to identify, evaluate and control blaster coating by-products, materials and emissions, including using common containment practices and waste removal processes.Where the interpretation of technical drawings is required unit MEM09002 Interpret technical drawing should also be selected.Where the selection and use of engineering measurement is required unit MEM12023 Perform engineering measurements should also be selected.Where the selection and use of tools is required unit MEM18001 Use hand tools and unit MEM18002 Use power tools/hand held operations, should also be selected as appropriate.No licensing, legislative or certification requirements apply to this unit at the time of publication. Elements and Performance Criteria
1 Determine job requirements
- 1.1 Follow standard operating procedures (SOPs)
- 1.2 Comply with work health and safety (WHS) requirements at all times
- 1.3 Use appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) in accordance with SOPs
- 1.4 Identify job requirements from specifications, job sheets or work instructions
2 Apply specific health and safety considerations to surface preparation
- 2.1 Identify products, hazardous materials and processes used in blaster cleaning and coating operations
- 2.2 Identify unsafe working conditions and report to appropriate personnel
3 Control by-products, materials and emissions
- 3.1 Contain by-products, materials and emissions using established procedures
- 3.2 Monitor by-products, materials and emissions and direct to appropriate treatment or storage area
- 3.3 Check monitoring devices for correct/continuous operation
- 3.4 Record status and report in accordance with procedures
4 Dispose of by-product, materials and emissions
- 4.1 Apply waste treatment processes and in accordance with SOPs, as required
- 4.2 Carry out treatment processes to meet relevant authority waste requirements
