Description
This unit involves the skills and knowledge required to operate, inspect and monitor coal delivery systems to power generating unit storage bunkers. A power generating facilitythat burnsfossil fuelsis reliant on fuel supply delivery systems to maintain power generation capability. A coal delivery system will consist of plant and/or equipment that requires regular monitoring to ensure smooth operations are maintained. Competency in this unit requires the ability to plan work, operate coal delivery system plant,analyse coal delivery system plant faults, monitor and inspect coal delivery system plant and completion of all documentation. Individuals will, in general, work under supervision, in a power generation facility as an operator. Power generation plant operators are typically trained and authorised to isolate, prepare plant and issue permits to work.No licensing, legislative or certification requirements apply to this unit at the time of publication.Note: Workplace practiceThe application of the skills and knowledge described in this unit may require a licence or training permit to practice in the workplace where work is carried out on gas and electrical installations. Additional conditions may apply under state and territory legislative and regulatory licensing requirements.

Elements and Performance Criteria
1 Plan and prepare fuel deliveryplant for operation
- 1.1 Safety issues related to operating and monitoring fuel delivery system plant are identified, in accordance with workplace procedures, and Work, Health and Safety (WHS)/Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) regulations and legislative requirements
- 1.2 Work, fuel delivery plant and resource requirements are identified, in accordance with workplace procedures, from appropriate personnel and documentation
- 1.3 Quality assurance requirements are identified, in accordance with workplace procedures
- 1.4 Documentation to determine fuel delivery plant status is assessed and evaluated, in accordance with workplace procedures
- 1.5 Inspection and field preparation for fuel delivery plant service is carried out, in accordance with workplace procedures and manufacturers' recommendations
- 1.6 Operational prerequisites for fuel delivery plant is established, in accordance with workplace procedures and manufacturers' recommendations
- 1.7 Sequence for recommissioning of fuel delivery plant is determined, in accordance with workplace procedures and site requirements
2 Operate coal delivery plant
- 2.1 Fuel delivery plant is operated, in accordance with workplace procedures and manufacturers' operating recommendations
- 2.2 Fuel delivery plant is monitored and observed, in accordance with workplace procedures, to detect deviations from normal operating conditions
- 2.3 Corrective action is taken, in accordance with workplace procedures, when fuel delivery plant response does not meet documentation, plant integrity or personnel safety requirements
- 2.4 Fuel delivery plant is returned to operational status upon completion of testing, in accordance with workplace procedures
3 Analyse fuel deliveryplant faults
- 3.1 Causes of abnormal fuel delivery plant operating conditions are identified, in accordance with workplace procedures, by analysing technical and operational information
- 3.2 Corrective action is taken, in accordance with workplace procedures
4 Monitor and inspect fuel deliveryplant
- 4.1 Fuel delivery plant to be monitored and inspected is physically identified, in accordance with workplace procedures
- 4.2 Fuel delivery plant is monitored and inspected for normal operation or to detect deviations, in accordance with workplace procedures
- 4.3 Corrective action is taken, in accordance with workplace procedures
- 4.4 Appropriate personnel are notified when defects are detected, in accordance with workplace procedures
5 Complete documentation
- 5.1 Fuel delivery plant problems, movements and status is reported, in accordance with workplace procedures
