Description
This unit involves the skills and knowledge required to operate, inspect and monitor coal delivery systems to power generating unit storage bunkers. A power generating facilitythat burnsfossil fuelsis reliant on fuel supply delivery systems to maintain power generation capability. A coal delivery system will consist of plant and equipment that requires regular monitoring to ensure smooth operations are maintained. Competency in this unit requires the ability to plan work, operate coal delivery system plant,analyse coal delivery system plant faults, monitor and inspect coal delivery system plant, and complete all documentation. Individuals will, in general, work under supervision, in a power generation facility as an operator. Power generation plant operators are trained and authorised to isolate, prepare plant and issue permits to work.No licensing, legislative or certification requirements apply to this unit at the time of publication.

Elements and Performance Criteria
1 Plan and prepare fuel deliveryplant for operation
  • 1.1 Work health and safety (WHS)/occupational health and safety (OHS) regulations, legislative requirements, codes of practice, manufacturers’ recommendations and specifications, environmental requirements and workplace procedures are identified, applied and monitored
  • 1.2 Work, fuel delivery plant and resource requirements are identified from relevant personnel and documentation in accordance with workplace procedures
  • 1.3 Quality assurance requirements are identified in accordance with workplace procedures
  • 1.4 Documentation to determine fuel delivery plant status is assessed and evaluated in accordance with workplace procedures
  • 1.5 Inspection and field preparation for fuel delivery plant service is carried out in accordance with manufacturers' specifications and workplace procedures
  • 1.6 Operational prerequisites for fuel delivery plant are established in accordance with manufacturers' specifications and workplace procedures
  • 1.7 Sequence for recommissioning of fuel delivery plant is determined in accordance with workplace procedures
2 Operate coal delivery plant
  • 2.1 Fuel delivery plant is operated in accordance with manufacturers' specifications and workplace procedures
  • 2.2 Fuel delivery plant is monitored and observed to detect deviations from normal operating conditions in accordance with workplace procedures
  • 2.3 Fuel delivery plant is returned to operational status upon completion of testing in accordance with workplace procedures
  • 2.4 Causes of abnormal fuel delivery plant operating conditions are identified by analysing technical and operational information in accordance with workplace procedures
3 Monitor and inspect fuel deliveryplant
  • 3.1 Fuel delivery plant to be monitored and inspected is physically identified in accordance with workplace procedures
  • 3.2 Fuel delivery plant is monitored and inspected for normal operation and to detect deviations in accordance with workplace procedures
  • 3.3 Relevant personnel are notified when defects are detected in accordance with workplace procedures
4 Complete documentation
  • 4.1 Fuel delivery plant problems, movements and status is reported in accordance with workplace procedures
