Description
This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to carry out conveyor system shifts in coal mining, including monitoring conveyor shifts, testing conveyor after relocation and returning it to service.It applies to those working in operational roles. They generally work under supervision to undertake a prescribed range of functions involving known routines and procedures and take some responsibility for the quality of work outcomes.No licensing, legislation, or certification requirements apply to this unit at the time of publication.

Elements and Performance Criteria
1. Plan and prepare for conveyor shift operations
- 1.1 Obtain, interpret, clarify and confirm briefings and survey plans
- 1.2 Access, interpret and apply documentation required for conveyor shift operations
- 1.3 Carry out site inspection and determine preparation requirements within scope of own role
- 1.4 Select equipment and/or attachments required for work activities and check for faults
- 1.5 Identify, address and report potential hazards and risks according to site requirements
- 1.6 Select and wear personal protective equipment according to site requirements
- 1.7 Obtain and interpret emergency procedures and identify steps required to respond to emergencies
2. Set up for conveyor shift
- 2.1 Complete ground preparation works according to job requirements
- 2.2 Carry out fire service pipe relocation according to job requirements
- 2.3 Carry out minor maintenance according to job requirements
- 2.4 Set and prepare anchoring equipment/posts according to job requirements
- 2.5 Follow plans and confirm appropriate permits are issued to isolate plant
- 2.6 Release of conveyor belt tension according to job requirements
3. Carry out and monitor conveyor shift
- 3.1 Communicate personnel and equipment resource requirements within scope of own role
- 3.2 Prepare conveyor for relocation according to manufacturer specifications and site requirements
- 3.3 Relocate conveyor according to job requirements
- 3.4 Monitor sequence of conveyor shift activities within scope of own role
- 3.5 Diagnose problems and implement response actions within scope of own role
- 3.6 Complete conveyor shift according to job and site requirement
4. Test and return conveyor to service
- 4.1 Restore isolated plant according to site requirements
- 4.2 Carry out test runs with unloaded and loaded belt according to site requirements
- 4.3 Inspect frames and conveyor belt for alignment, tension and fouling and arrange for minor maintenance as required
- 4.4 Return conveyor system to service according to manufacturer specifications and site requirements
- 4.5 Clear site of debris, tools, plant and machinery according to site requirements
- 4.6 Complete maintenance records and reports according to site requirements
