This unit describes a participant’s skills and knowledge required to coordinate conveyor system shift in Coal mining.This unit is appropriate for those working in operational roles.No licensing, legislation, or certification requirements apply to this unit at the time of publication.

Elements and Performance Criteria
1. Plan and prepare for conveyor shift operations
- 1.1 Access, interpret and apply conveyor shift operations documentation and ensure the work activity is compliant
- 1.2 Receive, interpret and clarify briefings and survey plans before proceeding
- 1.3 Carry out site inspection and determine the preparation requirements
- 1.4 Develop detailed conveyor shift plan
- 1.5 Select, and check for faults, equipment and/or attachments for work activities
- 1.6 Organise and brief relevant personnel on plan, timing and tasks
- 1.7 Identify and resolve coordination issues with others
- 1.8 Identify, address and report potential hazards and risks
- 1.9 Select and wear personal protective equipment appropriate for work activities
- 1.10 Obtain and interpret emergency procedures, and be prepared for fire/accident/emergency
2. Set up for conveyor shift
- 2.1 Complete ground preparation works
- 2.2 Coordinate relocation of fire service pipes
- 2.3 Coordinate minor maintenance
- 2.4 Coordinate setting and preparation of anchoring equipment/posts
- 2.5 Follow plans and ensure the issue of appropriate permits to isolate plant
- 2.6 Coordinate release of conveyor belt tension
3. Coordinate and monitor conveyor shift
- 3.1 Acquire appropriate resources both personnel and equipment
- 3.2 Prepare conveyor for relocation
- 3.3 Relocate conveyor
- 3.4 Coordinate and monitor sequence of conveyor shift activities
- 3.5 Maintain safety standards
- 3.6 Diagnose problems and implement response actions
- 3.7 Complete conveyor shift according to site/mine procedures
4. Test and return conveyor to service
- 4.1 Arrange for cancellation of permits and restore isolated plant
- 4.2 Carry out test runs with unloaded and loaded belt
- 4.3 Inspect frames and conveyor belt for alignment, tension and fouling
- 4.4 Arrange for minor maintenance as required
- 4.5 Return conveyor system to service
- 4.6 Ensure site is clear of debris, tools, plant and machinery
- 4.7 Carry out written recording and reporting
