Description
This unit of competency describes the skills and knowledge required to carry out pest control activities for weeds, vertebrate and invertebrate pests in wine operations.The unit applies to individuals who work under general supervision, with limited autonomy and accountability for their own work.All work must be carried out to comply with workplace procedures according to state/territory health and safety regulations, legislation and standards that apply to the workplace.Use of chemical treatments may be controlled in some regions and advice should be sought from regulators in the relevant state or territory. Individuals performing shooting activities will require a gun licence under state and territory legislation.

1. Prepare for pest control activities
- 1.1 Confirm work instructions, relevant regulations and identify potential health and safety hazards and controls according to workplace procedures1.2 Select and fit personal protective equipment according to job requirements
- 1.3 Check and calibrate equipment according to job requirements
2. Identify pests and treatments
- 2.1 Identify weeds, vertebrates and invertebrates pests found in the wine operations environment
- 2.2 Record and report details of pests according to workplace procedures
- 2.3 Select treatment method according to workplace procedures
- 2.4 Ensure materials are ready to meet job requirements
3. Carry out pest control activities
- 3.1 Undertake work in accordance with relevant safety data sheets and workplace environmental guidelines
- 3.2 Prepare control treatments safely according to workplace procedures
- 3.3 Prepare equipment according to workplace procedures
- 3.4 Apply control treatments according to workplace procedures
- 3.5 Monitor treatment and equipment to ensure operation is within specification
- 3.6 Identify and address non-conformances according to workplace procedures
4. Complete pest control activities
- 4.1 Shut down, clean and store equipment according to workplace procedures
- 4.2 Collect and store unused treatment material according to workplace procedures
- 4.3 Collect and dispose of waste according to workplace environmental procedures and regulations
- 4.4 Record workplace information according to workplace procedures
