This unit involves the skills and knowledge required to recognise and safely deal with emergencies and incidents and includes using safety equipment and providing assistance to others in distress. The unit applies to individuals implementing workplace policies and procedures when responding to marina emergencies or incidents.This unit applies to individuals who provide assistance under supervision in the operational management of the marina.Licensing/Regulatory InformationNo licensing, legislative or certification requirements apply to this unit at the time of publication.

Elements and Performance Criteria
1 Apply workplace emergency procedures
  • 1.1 Emergency is identified correctly and reported to relevant personnel according to Emergency Response Plan (ERP)
  • 1.2 Alarm is raised according to ERP and workplace procedures
  • 1.3 Nature, location and type of emergency is established and recorded, including cause of the emergency
2 Respond to an emergency
  • 2.1 Emergency procedures and instructions are followed according to workplace procedures and ERP
  • 2.2 Communication and collaboration with personnel are maintained with personnel at all times
  • 2.3 Emergency equipment and personal protective equipment (PPE) are selected and used according to the relevant ERP
  • 2.4 Assistance is provided to distressed and injured persons in accordance with ERP, workplace procedures and supervisor instructions
3 Conclude emergency response
  • 3.1 All persons are accounted for, and outcomes are reported correctly and followed according to workplace procedures and ERP
  • 3.2 Emergencies are recorded accurately and reported to the appropriate personnel in accordance with workplace procedures
  • 3.3 Instructions to secure site are followed according to workplace procedures and ERP
  • 3.4 Equipment is cleaned and function tested for operational condition and stored according to workplace procedures and supervisor instructions
  • 3.5 Equipment malfunctions or faults are reported according to workplace procedures
  • 3.6 Review of ERP and emergency debrief are participated in, including a procedural review with relevant personnel and/or supervisor
