This unit of competency defines the skills and knowledge required to set computer controlled machines and processes.All technical difficulties are resolved in consultation with appropriate technical advisers.Where the setting of non-computer controlled machines or processes is required unit MEM07003 Perform routine machine setting should be selected.Where the selection and use of general machining is required unit MEM07005 Perform general machining should be selected.No licensing, legislative or certification requirements apply to this unit at the time of publication.Band: AUnit Weight: 2

Elements and Performance Criteria
1 Determine job requirements
  • 1.1 Follow standard operating procedures (SOPs)
  • 1.2 Comply with work health and safety (WHS) requirements at all times
  • 1.3 Use appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) in accordance with SOPs
  • 1.4 Identify job requirements from specifications, drawings, job sheets or work instructions
2 Mount work holding fixtures/devices/tools
  • 2.1 Prepare machine to accept work holding fixtures/devices/ tools
  • 2.2 Mount pre-set tooling into machine/equipment, as required
  • 2.3 Set work holding fixtures/devices on machine
  • 2.4 Identify/verify tool offset or datum settings against job sheet
  • 2.5 Load and select program and verify in accordance with job instructions
3 Conduct pre-start checks
  • 3.1 Undertake pre-start checks
  • 3.2 Observe correct safety procedures and check safety equipment for correct operation
4 Set machine
  • 4.1 Set/adjust machine to meet operational requirements and specifications
  • 4.2 Check production samples for compliance with specifications
  • 4.3 Replace pre-set tools, adjust tool offsets or take other corrective action in accordance with SOPs, as required
  • 4.4 Instruct operator, if necessary, ensuring that all safety procedures and devices are in place
