Description
This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to support individual and groups to participate in arts and health programs and monitor the effectiveness of delivered programs.The unit applies to those who are arts and health practitioners in a range of arts and health promotion contexts and who deliver programs that support optimum participant health by incorporating creative arts into their health care regime. The programs apply to a range of settings within the arts and health field, including hospitals, residential units, daycare centres, hospices, and community based health care settings.No licensing, legislative or certification requirements apply to this unit at the time of publication.

Elements and Performance Criteria
1. Prepare to deliver participant-specific arts and health program
  • 1.1 Confirm program suitability given participant needs and abilities and customise program within scope of own role or escalate as required
  • 1.2 Source and prepare facilities and equipment required for program delivery according to applicable organisational procedures
  • 1.3 Obtain required consent from participants before commencing program
2. Deliver arts and health program
  • 2.1 Explain purpose, rationale and requirements of program to participants
  • 2.2 Implement methods that facilitate program participation according to implementation guidelines and organisational and safety requirements
  • 2.3 Demonstrate program components to participants as required
  • 2.4 Provide participants with time, opportunity and encouragement to practise existing and newly developed skills
  • 2.5 Provide feedback to reinforce intended application of program and its activities
3. Monitor arts and health program
  • 3.1 Observe program participation and identify and manage support needs according to organisational protocols and guidelines
  • 3.2 Identify need for program or delivery adjustments to improve outcomes, and adjust as required
  • 3.3 Seek specialist advice on program where necessary
  • 3.4 Record program changes and report them to required personnel according to organisational procedures as required
  • 3.5 Report participant difficulties and concerns to involved allied health professionals
