This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to extend skills in arranging music for any music genre and refine skills through the setting of professional development goals.The unit applies to those who apply commitment and high-level skills in aural imagination, melodic and harmonic development, instrumentation and orchestration and who extend the range of music arranging briefs to which they can competently respond.No licensing, legislative or certification requirements apply to this unit at the time of publication.

Elements and Performance Criteria
1. Establish goals and prepare to arrange music
- 1.1 Evaluate and discuss factors that contribute to excellence in music arranging
- 1.2 Listen to and evaluate recordings of own compositions and work of master composers and arrangers, and identify techniques that could be applied to own practice
- 1.3 Cultivate relationships that will enhance own professional practice using networking strategies
- 1.4 Identify and document professional development goals based on critical analysis of previous work, and establish criteria for monitoring and evaluating own skill development
- 1.5 Devise practice plan that incorporates professional development goals
2. Arrange music
- 2.1 Establish requirements of music arranging brief with required personnel
- 2.2 Generate musical ideas and starting points in response to brief and test options for realising them
- 2.3 Organise musical elements into working versions of musical piece, applying different arranging techniques
- 2.4 Share work in progress with required personnel and refine own ideas using creative and technical feedback
3. Finalise arrangement
- 3.1 Listen to arrangement and adjust as required according to arrangement brief
- 3.2 Incorporate ideas and feedback into final arrangement
- 3.3 Obtain copyright clearances and address intellectual property rights according to requirements
- 3.4 Present arrangement in required format by agreed deadline
4. Review skill development
- 4.1 Critically review own arrangement and identify areas for future improvement
- 4.2 Evaluate level of improvement in own arranging techniques against agreed criteria
- 4.3 Seek feedback on arrangement from others and incorporate their suggestions into own future professional development strategies
