This unit of competency has been developed for non-destructive testing (NDT) technicians who perform non-destructive tests to the requirements of NDT national and international codes and standards.The unit defines the skills and knowledge to apply Australian and international standards and codes covering various non-destructive tests, as well as relevant sections of standards and codes covering the materials, structures or products that are being tested.The unit scope includes the skills and knowledge required to identify, locate, and apply relevant Australian and international NDT standards and codes and standards and codes relevant to the object, weld or other material being tested and the environment where the test is being conducted.Band: BUnit Weight: 6Assessment as competent against MEM24038 Apply codes and standards to non-destructive testing may contribute to certification against Australian NDT standards where assessment in this unit of competency is carried out in conjunction with an examining authority as described in AS ISO 9712 NDT - Qualification and certification of personnel, or subsequent Standards.

Elements and Performance Criteria
1. Determine job requirements
- 1.1 Follow standard operating procedures (SOPs)
- 1.2 Comply with work health and safety (WHS) requirements at all times
- 1.3 Use appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) in accordance with SOPs
2. Confirm details of required non-destructive tests
- 2.1 Identify required NDT from customer requirements, drawings, design specification or welding procedures specification
- 2.2 Obtain standards and codes relevant to required NDT and check currency
- 2.3 Review relevant sections of specified standards or codes to identify requirements relevant to NDT
3. Identify and access other standards and codes relevant to NDT requirement
- 3.1 Identify relevant standards and codes for NDT object and NDT environment
- 3.2 Confirm materials structures, products, consumables and environment comply with standards and codes specified in job requirements
- 3.3 Review selected standards and codes for implications for NDT procedure
4. Apply standards and codes to performance of required NDT
- 4.1 Perform specified NDT to requirements of relevant standards and codes
- 4.2 Record NDT results consistent with requirements in relevant standards and codes
