Description
This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to make a basic determination of diseases present in the community and their mode of disease transmission, and to implement disease transmission control measures according to a defined strategy.This unit applies to work in a public health context and workers at this level will work under supervision and within defined guidelines.No occupational licensing, certification or specific legislative requirements apply to this unit at the time of publication.

Elements and Performance Criteria
1. Determine diseases affecting the community.
- 1.1. Identify basic signs, symptoms and causes of diseases within the community.
- 1.2. Determine the nature of any diseases affecting the community and confirm with supervisor.
2. Work with basic environmental health strategies to limit the transmission of disease.
- 2.1. Discuss and confirm appropriate environmental health strategies with supervisor.
- 2.2. Identify appropriate control measures to limit the transmission of disease.
3. Implement environmental health strategies to limit the transmission of disease.
- 3.1. Identify own roles and responsibilities.
- 3.2. Clarify roles and responsibilities of other key people or agencies.
- 3.3. Identify points of contact in relation to job role.
- 3.4. Implement and monitor control measures to limit the transmission of diseases according to appropriate environmental health strategy and organisational requirements.
- 3.5. Seek feedback from the community regarding the effectiveness of control measures.
