Description
This unit of competency specifies the outcomes required to clear sawn or machined materials and waste from a saw or machine while maintaining process flow and checking and sorting the finished product.The unit applies to Timber Puller.No licensing or certification requirements apply to this unit at the time of publication.

Elements and Performance Criteria
1. Prepare for cutting or machining process
  • 1.1 Review work order and identify required finished board sizes and quantities in line with operator.
  • 1.2 Prepare to work safely according to workplace work health and safety (WHS) requirements.
  • 1.3 Check sequence of cuts or machining passes with operator and work order, where multiple cuts are required.
2. Maintain process flow.
  • 2.1 Control flitch, cant or board to maintain process flow in line with sawing or dressing speed, WHS requirements and production standards.
  • 2.2 Control and regularly clear sawn waste and material in line with site procedures and environmental requirements.
  • 2.3 Assess flitch, cant or board for further processing requirements and return to operator in line with production standards.
  • 2.4 Identify and report problems in flow or processing of materials to operator for resolution.
  • 2.5 Dispose of faulty or defective material in line with site procedures and environmental requirements, as directed by operator.
3. Sort finished product and follow record-keeping procedures.
  • 3.1 Sort and stack boards in line with site procedures and specific operational requirements.
  • 3.2 Assess boards for standard sizes in line with site procedures.
  • 3.3 Segregate and store or direct recoverable material and waste for further processing in line with site procedures.
  • 3.4 Record and report production and quality information in line with site procedures and organisational requirements.
