Description
This unit describes the skills and knowledge needed to undertake electronic processes and procedures used to make gravure cylinders. It requires the individual to prepare and electronically engrave a blank cylinder to be used for gravure printing according to job specifications.It applies to individuals working in the printing and graphic arts industries who work under some supervision using practical skills and equipment to produce gravure cylinders electronically.No licensing, legislative or certification requirements apply to this unit at the time of publication.

Elements and Performance Criteria
1 Select cylinder
  • 1.1 Job specifications are interpreted to select an appropriate cylinder and/or core
  • 1.2 Base cylinder is selected according to job specifications
2 Pre-plan for engraving
  • 2.1 Opels are analysed against job specifications and technical requirements of the equipment
  • 2.2 Opels are masked manually for any uneven start positioning
3 Engrave cylinder electronically
  • 3.1 A clean work environment is maintained to ensure quality of output
  • 3.2 Equipment is maintained according to manufacturer’s specifications
  • 3.3 Cylinder is engraved according to job specifications and enterprise procedures
4 Adjust finished cylinder
  • 4.1 Additions and deletions are made to cylinder according to job specifications and enterprise procedures
  • 4.2 Required changes are pre-planned
