Description
This unit describes the performance outcomes required to repair plugs, moulds, frames and flooring in vehicle bodies using wood materials. It involves preparing for the task, selecting and using wood materials and wood working equipment to repair plugs, moulds, frames and flooring components, and completing workplace processes and documentation.It applies to those working in the automotive service and body repair industry.No licensing, legislative, regulatory or certification requirements apply to this unit at the time of publication.

Elements and Performance Criteria
1. Prepare for work
- 1.1 Job requirements are determined from workplace instructions
- 1.2 Materials are selected and inspected for quality
- 1.3 Hazards associated with the work are identified and risks are managed
- 1.4 Wood working tools and equipment and personal protective equipment (PPE) are selected and checked for serviceability
- 1.5 Work area is prepared and work is planned to identify methods for repairing wooden components, minimise waste, and use time efficiently
2. Carry out repair procedures
- 2.1 Damaged component identified for repair is removed from vehicle, and damage or fault is assessed
- 2.2 Repairs to damaged component are carried out using manufacturer approved techniques, repair materials and equipment according to workplace procedures and safety and environmental requirements
- 2.3 Repairs to wooden component are completed without causing damage to equipment, machinery or vehicle
- 2.4 Repaired component is reinstalled and finished according to workplace procedures
3. Complete work processes
- 3.1 Final inspection is made to ensure work meets workplace expectations and component is presented ready for use
- 3.2 Work area is cleaned, waste and non-recyclable materials are disposed of, and recyclable material is collected and stored
- 3.3 Tools and equipment are checked, reported if faulty, and stored according to workplace procedures
- 3.4 Workplace documentation is processed according to workplace procedures
