Description
This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to lift and shift loads using load shifting and basic lifting equipment.It applies to individuals who perform a range of mainly routine tasks in various sectors of the printing and graphic arts industry, using limited practical skills and fundamental knowledge in a defined context. They generally work under direct supervision.No licensing, legislative or certification requirements apply to this unit at the time of publication.

Elements and Performance Criteria
1. Prepare to move load
- 1.1 Undertake routine pre-use checks of equipment according to manufacturer specifications and work health and safety (WHS) requirements
- 1.2 Inspect load and identify load type
- 1.3 Select load handling method according to weight and shape of load
2. Move loads
- 2.1 Identify and attach any supplements to load mover according to enterprise and WHS requirements
- 2.2 Communicate with colleagues to coordinate load movement
- 2.3 Ground or put down load as required according to WHS requirements
- 2.4 Detach any supplements from load mover and load
3. Shift loads
- 3.1 Select load shifting device
- 3.2 Operate load shifting device according to manufacturer specifications
- 3.3 Lift load according to requirements for balance, vision of operation and protection of load
- 3.4 Select and use path of movement according to WHS requirements and enterprise procedures
- 3.5 Check for obstacles and hazards and monitor path of movement
4. Place loads
- 4.1 Place loads according to requirements for safety, stability, protection of material and avoidance of on-site hazards
- 4.2 Remove and secure shifting device as required according to enterprise procedures
