Description
This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to apply solid acrylic two-pack materials to a variety of vehicle components by spray gun application. This unit involves preparing for the task, selecting and using specialist tools and equipment, mixing and applying automotive paint materials according to manufacturer specifications, and completing workplace processes and documentation.The unit applies to those working in the automotive refinishing industry.No licensing, legislative, regulatory or certification requirements apply to this unit at the time of publication.

Elements and Performance Criteria
1. Prepare for work
  • 1.1 Identify job requirements from workplace instructions
  • 1.2 Identify hazards associated with the work, assess potential risks and implement control measures in line with workplace policies and procedures
  • 1.3 Identify tools, equipment and chemicals required for refinishing activity and establish serviceability according to workplace procedures
2. Carry out application activities
  • 2.1 Mix and apply two-pack materials according to workplace procedures, manufacturer specifications, industry standards and workplace health and safety and environmental requirements
  • 2.2 Dry materials according to workplace procedures
  • 2.3 Check paint finish against manufacturers specifications
  • 2.4 Remove paint surface faults using compounds, polishes and glazes
3. Complete work processes
  • 3.1 Conduct final inspection according to workplace procedures and confirm vehicle is ready for use
  • 3.2 Clear work area and dispose of or recycle materials according to workplace procedures
  • 3.3 Complete documentation according to workplace procedures
