Description
This unit involves the skills and knowledge required to identify the type of incident, respond appropriately, collect evidence and report the incident to required authority.This unit addresses transport security technical skill requirements (physical, mental and task-management abilities) related to transport security duties of aviation, maritime and air cargo security personnel, and contributes to safe and effective performance in operational transport security environments.Work is performed independently or under limited supervision as a single operator or within a team environment.Licensing, legislative, regulatory or certification requirements are applicable to this unit.

Elements and Performance Criteria
1 Identify type of incident
  • 1.1 Type of incident is identified
  • 1.2 Emergency or security response actions are selected and applied appropriately
  • 1.3 Responding agency is notified
  • 1.4 Threat is contained in accordance with security procedures
  • 1.5 Security response is addressed in accordance with standard operating procedures (SOPs)
  • 1.6 Airport emergency plans are activated as relevant
  • 1.7 Corrective actions and preventative measures are implemented according to security procedures
2 Collect evidence
  • 2.1 Closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage/photos are checked to review incident
  • 2.2 X-ray images are reviewed to identify prohibited item and/or weapon as relevant
  • 2.3 Equipment test logs are checked to ensure compliance
  • 2.4 Information regarding the incident is gathered from relevant stakeholders
  • 2.5 Incident is reviewed to confirm process was followed according to procedures
  • 2.6 Personnel training records are checked where relevant
3 Report incident
  • 3.1 Reporting arrangements are completed in accordance with workplace policies, procedures and statutory obligations
  • 3.2 Internal and external documentation is completed and retained to support long-term investigations
4 Conduct post-incident review
  • 4.1 Debriefing is conducted with screening team and relevant stakeholders
  • 4.2 Procedures are reviewed and updated as necessary
  • 4.3 Training and/or retraining of staff is identified/implemented, as necessary
  • 4.4 Corrective actions are implemented to improve procedures
