Description
This unit of competency defines the skills and knowledge required to develop and manage manufacturing-related projects that are low risk, small scale and can be managed by one person under supervision.It includes the application of project management tools such as critical path methods (CPM), bar and Gantt charts, work breakdown structures, program evaluation and review technique (PERT). Work may involve the use of project management software packages and either electronic or manual recording systems.The unit applies to engineering or related activities and is suitable for people giving technical support in manufacturing or engineering operations and those pursuing technical qualifications and careers at paraprofessional or technician level. All work is carried out under supervision.When skills in the development of production schedules are required, unit MEM30021 Prepare a simple production schedule should also be selected.No licensing, legislative or certification requirements apply to this unit at the time of publication.

Elements and Performance Criteria
1. Select appropriate project management tools and develop project plan
- 1.1 Follow standard operating procedures (SOPs) and comply with work health and safety (WHS) requirements at all times
- 1.2 Use project management tools to develop a plan for a simple manufacturing-related project with a schedule of activities to meet project outcomes
- 1.3 Refer plan to a supervisor for approval
2. Implement planned activities
- 2.1 Select appropriate project management tools and develop project plan
- 2.2 Communicate with all affected personnel regarding project implementation
- 2.3 Organise supply and/or allocation of required resources including materials and equipment
- 2.4 Report project progress in relation to agreed milestones to provide a measure of performance throughout the life of the plan
- 2.5 Discuss progress in consultation with other staff and contractors to ensure effective outcomes
3. Review project plan and schedule
- 3.1 Monitor project outcomes, performance standards and project objectives, analyse against specifications and report results
- 3.2 Discuss and resolve variations in keeping to plan with supervisors
