Description

This qualification reflects the competencies required by those having employment aspirations to work within the maritime, aviation or land forces defence support industry. It will provide pathways to employment or further education and training opportunities in logistics, engineering or other related fields.

Individuals will apply a broad set of skills in the use of a range of technologies and processes in a variety of work contexts in meeting Defence client needs. They will ensure confidentiality and security of client information and protect themselves and the organisation from cyber threats.

Work will be undertaken individually and within teams in the procurement of materials and in the provision of services to ensure the quality of products produced by the supply chain of the organisation.

Graduates may seek to follow pathways to entry-level employment in one of these defence support industries, or to pursue further education and training opportunities in areas such as engineering and logistics.

In this context Defence Industry includes those enterprises that provide logistics and operational support to the military services.

Total number of units to achieve the qualification = nineteen (19)

There are thirteen (13) core units of competency.
Three (3) elective units must be drawn from the listed group of elective units of competency.
A further three (3) units of competency may be drawn from the listed group of elective units or from the specified training packages where the units of competency are first packaged at AQF level two or three.

The selection of elective units of competency must:
- be through consultation with the respective defence industry jurisdiction,
- support a broad occupational outcome within the defence support industry; and
- provide pathways to other qualifications or employment.
