Description
This unit of competency defines the skills and knowledge required to perform basic inspection of completed or partly completed welded fabrications produced by others in a production environment.It is used to monitor the quality of production fabrication work where knowledge of the welding techniques and testing procedures is required. Duties are carried out in consultation with an appropriately qualified supervisor or engineer.No licensing, legislative or certification requirements apply to this unit at the time of publication.Band: AUnit Weight: 2

Elements and Performance Criteria
1 Determine job requirements
  • 1.1 Follow standard operating procedures (SOPs)
  • 1.2 Comply with work health and safety (WHS) requirements at all times
  • 1.3 Use appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) in accordance with SOPs
  • 1.4 Identify job requirements from specifications, drawings, job sheets or work instructions
  • 1.5 Confirm requirements through consultation with a suitably qualified supervisor or engineer
2 Monitor quality of welded products
  • 2.1 Carry out inspection procedures in accordance with SOPs
  • 2.2 Report non-conforming welds and initiate corrective action according to SOPs
  • 2.3 Use pre-set gauges to monitor quality of product
3 Initiate testing when required
  • 3.1 Implement test requirements according to SOPs and any legislative or regulatory requirements
4 Undertake procedures for reporting
  • 4.1 Collect weld test data in accordance with SOPs
  • 4.2 Prepare reports as required
