This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to suppress airborne contaminants in the resources and infrastructure industries.It applies to those working in operational roles. They generally work under supervision to undertake a prescribed range of functions involving known routines and procedures and take responsibility for the quality of work outcomes.Licensing, legislative and certification requirements may apply to this unit and can vary between states, territories and industry sectors. Users must check requirements with relevant body before applying the unit.

Elements and Performance Criteria
1. Plan and prepare for suppressing airborne contaminant operations
  • 1.1 Obtain, interpret and confirm work requirements
  • 1.2 Access, interpret and apply documentation required to supress airborne contaminants
  • 1.3 Select the appropriate airborne contaminant suppression method to eliminate, suppress or minimise airborne contaminants according to workplace procedures
  • 1.4 Identify and address potential risks, hazards and environmental issues, and implement control measures according to workplace procedures
  • 1.5 Select and wear personal protective equipment appropriate for work activities
  • 1.6 Identify and communicate potential problems with others as required and according to workplace procedures
  • 1.7 Obtain and interpret emergency procedures, and be prepared for emergency situations
2. Eliminate, suppress, minimise airborne contaminants
  • 2.1 Operate the airborne contaminant suppression equipment
  • 2.2 Adjust the airborne contaminant suppression equipment as required according to workplace procedures
  • 2.3 Identify and report on monitoring systems and alarms according to workplace procedures
  • 2.4 Recognise and respond to hazardous and emergency situations according to workplace procedures
  • 2.5 Maintain written records according to workplace procedures
3. Carry out operator maintenance
  • 3.1 Carry out inspections and fault-finding activities according to workplace procedures
  • 3.2 Carry out routine operational servicing, lubrication and housekeeping tasks according to workplace procedures
  • 3.3 Carry out minor operator maintenance according to workplace procedures
  • 3.4 Support maintenance personnel during maintenance tasks according to workplace procedures
