Description
This unit describes the performance outcomes required to prepare and assemble vehicle components according to work order instructions and job specifications.It applies to those in an automotive environment and involves the application of skills and knowledge at a production worker level.No licensing, legislative or certification requirements apply to this unit at the time of publication.

Elements and Performance Criteria
1. Plan and prepare
  • 1.1 Work orders are reviewed to identify parts and materials to be assembled
  • 1.2 Parts and materials are dispatched to assembly area
  • 1.3 Details of parts and materials are recorded for stock control
  • 1.4 Tools and equipment are selected and inspected and faults reported
2. Load parts onto assembly jigs
  • 2.1 Workplace procedures are identified and followed
  • 2.2 Parts are loaded onto assembly jig according to workplace instructions
  • 2.3 Parts are aligned and clamped according to workplace instructions
3. Select and use adhesives, sealants, solvents and fasteners
  • 3.1 Adhesives and sealants are selected as per work order requirements
  • 3.2 Solvents are selected and used to remove excess adhesives and sealants
  • 3.3 Fasteners are identified, selected and fitted to component according to work order instructions
4. Produce finished product
  • 4.1 Parts are positioned and secured according to job specifications
  • 4.2 Fasteners are tensioned to job specifications
  • 4.3 Assemblies are inspected for quality and checked against job specifications
5. Complete work processes
  • 5.1 Work area, tools and equipment are cleaned, checked and stored according to workplace procedures
  • 5.2 Faulty equipment is identified, tagged and reported
  • 5.3 Waste material is collected, recycled or disposed of according to workplace procedures
  • 5.4 Work sheets are completed according to workplace procedures
