Description
This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to locate and apply original equipment manufacturer (OEM) or authorised agency recommended repair procedures during vehicle or component repair work. This unit involves preparing for the task, inspecting the vehicle damage, and identifying repair requirements according to OEM or authorised agency’s specifications, developing a repair plan, and completing workplace processes and documentation.The unit applies to those working in the automotive body repair industry.No licensing, legislative, regulatory or certification requirements apply to this unit at the time of publication.

Elements and Performance Criteria
1. Review OEM procedures
  • 1.1 Identify job requirements from workplace instructions
  • 1.2 Identify required information for repair activity
  • 1.3 Identify and confirm relevant procedures and vehicle specifications
  • 1.4 Plan repair work to minimise waste and use time efficiently
  • 1.5 Analyse OEM or authorised agency repair processes and incorporate into planning process
2. Apply knowledge of OEM standards
  • 2.1 Identify hazards associated with the work, assess potential risks and implement control measures in line with workplace policies and procedures
  • 2.2 Locate vehicle and components and prepare for repair work
  • 2.3 Identify tools, materials, and equipment required for repair activity and establish serviceability in line with OEM or authorised agency requirements
  • 2.4 Carry out repair work according workplace and OEM or authorised agency’s recommended repair procedures and safety and environmental requirements
  • 2.5 Identify non-compliances against OEM or authorised agency specifications, and report to appropriate personnel for rectification according to workplace procedures
3. Complete work processes
  • 3.1 Conduct final inspection according to workplace procedures and confirm vehicle is ready for use
  • 3.2 Clear work area and dispose of or recycle materials according to workplace procedures
  • 3.3 Complete documentation according to workplace procedures
