Description
This unit of competency defines the skills and knowledge required to create new commercial master key systems and expand existing keying systems, using even cut and rotating constant progression methods.It applies to master key systems written manually and using a computer master keying package for high security cylinders, primarily for commercial operations.Where a security survey/site assessment is required unit MEM20035 Perform a site security survey should also be selected.No licensing, legislative or certification requirements apply to this unit at the time of publication.Band: This unit has dual status and is to be regarded as both a Specialisation Band A unit and Specialisation Band B unit for progression to C5 (AQF level V).Unit Weight: 6

Elements and Performance Criteria
1. Determine job requirements
  • 1.1 Follow standard operating procedures (SOPs)
  • 1.2 Comply with work health and safety (WHS) requirements at all times
  • 1.3 Select and use personal protective equipment (PPE) in accordance with SOPs
  • 1.4 Identify job requirements from specifications
2. Assess customer requirements
  • 2.1 Consider physical characteristics of existing locks and other security devices and determine requirement for additional site inspection
  • 2.2 Discuss customer access and task requirements and clarify in accordance with SOPs
  • 2.3 Interpret architectural plans, floor plans and charts when planning and preparing a master key system in line with scope of job requirements
  • 2.4 Evaluate customer requirements with respect to current capacity, and make recommendations for the design of new or expanded system
  • 2.5 Identify personal limitations in assessing requirements for master key system and seek assistance from appropriate personnel in accordance with SOPs
3. Design master key system and system modifications
  • 3.1 Design commercial master key system to meet customer complex access requirements
  • 3.2 Check system for interchange based on specifications
  • 3.3 Apply principles and processes of master keying in accordance with industry practice and organisational requirements
4. Finalise system design
  • 4.1 Review final system design and keying requirements and confirm with appropriate personnel in accordance with organisational requirements
  • 4.2 Prepare documentation to allow for future interpretation and design requirements
  • 4.3 Prepare documentation, and process and store in accordance with client, legislative requirements and SOPs
