This unit describes a participant’s skills and knowledge required to conduct conveyor operations in Coal and Metalliferous mining.This unit is appropriate for those in operational roles.No licensing, legislation, or certification requirements apply to this unit at the time of publication.

Elements and Performance Criteria
1. Plan and prepare for conveyor operations
  • 1.1 Access, interpret and apply conveyor operations documentation, and ensure the work activity is compliant
  • 1.2 Obtain, interpret, clarify and confirm work requirements prior to proceeding
  • 1.3 Plan job and optimise production requirements
  • 1.4 Identify, address and report environmental issues and ground conditions
  • 1.5 Identify, address and report potential hazards and risks
  • 1.6 Select and wear personal correct protective equipment
  • 1.7 Obtain and interpret emergency procedures, and be prepared for fire/accident/emergency
2. Operate conveyor
  • 2.1 Carry out start-up, park, shutdown and secure equipment procedures
  • 2.2 Coordinate activities with others prior to commencing, during and on completion of work activities
  • 2.3 Activate audio and visual safety indicators before conveyor operation commences
  • 2.4 Ensure safe operation of equipment and maintain safety of self, others and plant/equipment
  • 2.5 Monitor conveyor performance utilising appropriate indicators
  • 2.6 Assess weight and dimension of materials and ensure conveyor is not exceeding capacity
  • 2.7 Monitor the process and ensure spillage is minimised
  • 2.8 Identify and remove/manage contaminants
  • 2.9 Complete the work plan within the operating capacities of the equipment
3. Carry out operator maintenance
  • 3.1 Prepare machine for maintenance
  • 3.2 Conduct inspections and fault finding procedures
  • 3.3 Carry out scheduled maintenance tasks
  • 3.4 Return machine to service
  • 3.5 Process written maintenance records
4. Carry out housekeeping activities
  • 4.1 Clear work area and dispose of or recycle materials
  • 4.2 Clean and maintain condition of equipment, ensure suitability for use, and address/report issues
  • 4.3 Manage and/or report hazards, and maintain a safe working environment
