Description
This unit involves the skills and knowledge required to transfer cargo in accordance with relevant regulations and workplace requirements as part of work activities in the transport and logistics industry.It includes preparing for cargo transfer, safe transfer of cargo using appropriate equipment, completing a transfer and completing all required documentation.Work is performed under some supervision generally within a team environment.No licensing, legislative or certification requirements apply to this unit at the time of publication.

Elements and Performance Criteria
1 Prepare for cargo transfer
  • 1.1 Cargo characteristics are identified to determine special handling or transfer equipment requirements
  • 1.2 Hazards are identified, risks are assessed and control measures are implemented in accordance with workplace procedures
  • 1.3 Location of cargo in yard is confirmed and transfer method is determined
  • 1.4 Pathway for cargo transfer is established and communicated in accordance with workplace procedures
  • 1.5 Working area is prepared in accordance with workplace procedures
  • 1.6 Communication method is confirmed and equipment tested prior to transfer
  • 1.7 Transfer method and equipment are selected to suit the cargo in accordance with workplace procedures
  • 1.8 Selected transfer equipment is inspected before it is used in accordance with manufacturer specifications and workplace procedures
  • 1.9 Faulty or damaged transfer equipment is isolated, tagged and reported in accordance with workplace procedures
2 Transfer cargo
  • 2.1 Cargo is secured using appropriate methods in accordance with workplace procedures
  • 2.2 Cargo is transferred safely in accordance with workplace procedures
  • 2.3 Communication is maintained effectively throughout the transfer
3 Complete cargotransfer
  • 3.1 Cargo transfer is completed in accordance with workplace procedures
  • 3.2 Transfer equipment is inspected for defects and secured in accordance with workplace procedures
