Description
This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to use computer hardware and software to develop 2D patterns for the production of complex shapes in manufactured textile products. It requires the ability to create drawings, complete computerised cutting of shapes, use a plotting table, and calculate material requirements and costing.This unit applies to individuals working in accordance with pre-determined specifications and established procedures. No licensing or certification requirements exist at the time of publication. Relevant legislation, industry standards and codes of practice within Australia must be applied.

Elements and Performance Criteria
1. Prepare to produce 2D patterns
- 1.1 Read and interpret preliminary drawings and other information that describes job specifications
- 1.2 Determine any missing dimensions or other unknown features of the proposed product through consultation with others and take action to obtain required details
- 1.3 Identify appropriate computer applications and enter required information or transfer from other sources to initiate design or production processes
2. Mark out and cut out shapes
- 2.1 Construct 2D drawings based on information using appropriate software applications in accordance with their operating requirements
- 2.2 Make appropriate adjustment for shrinkage and other required allowances
- 2.3 Mark out and cut shapes based on job information using a plotting table and appropriate features of software applications
- 2.4 Check finished work is accurate and conforms with specifications
3. Perform calculations
- 3.1 Use software applications to make accurate calculations for materials and product costings
- 3.2 Save data, drawings and other outputs using established workplace file and documentation formats
4. Save document and communicate data
- 4.1 Store other work-related information in accordance with workplace procedures
- 4.2 Pass on data and associated information to personnel responsible for further action
- 4.3 Follow procedures for exiting applications and computer shutdown
